My Viewpoints on Religion

PLEASE NOTE: Here are some random thoughts on religion. This is NOT to try and take away from anyone's faith or belief system. And please don't let this be an opportunity for you to try and change my mind. This is only an exercise for me to jot down and organize some random thoughts about religion that bounce around in MY head.

Faith, Worship, and the Bible

I "believe"... I believe that when you "believe" in something, it needs to be beyond any shadow of a doubt. Therefore, I, myself cannot believe in anything I cannot prove. I have many thoughts and ideas on God, the afterlife, reincarnation, etc., but I don't necessarily BELIEVE these things to be true. I do have an open mind to them - just as I do with ancient alien theory for example. But again, I don't necessarily BELIEVE we were visited by ET thousands of years ago and mistook them for "God(s)", but I think it's in the realm of possibilities.

I also think we were designed to simply not know what's on the "other side". Otherwise, wouldn't we be born with the knowledge already implanted in our brain? Or at the very least, wouldn't we be visited by our creator often enough to not have to rely on thousand year old stories to give us faith in God? The funny thing about this is I do think we are "wired" to worship. If you look at the most remote areas on the globe, there are tribes of people that worship SOMETHING. Whether it's airplanes, water, or fire, they worship SOMETHING.

Do I think a person won't make it to Heaven if they are not worshiping the right God, or believing in the "right" things? Well, if there is in fact a "Heaven", I personally don't think we can be held accountable because again - we are born without such knowledge. We're only given what we're told by our parents, and churches, and environments. Then we're handed the Bible which is a collection of many books written by HUMAN BEINGS. My problem with this is humans are faulty at best. We unfortunately like to lie, exaggerate etc. So can I really trust that another human being said they heard God speak to them? Who knows, maybe they did! Or maybe they didn't. Either way, they write their experiences down on their scrolls - later to be translated again and again over time - which is yet another problem I have. Were they translated correctly? Was there anything lost in translation? Did any of this really even happen?

Bottom Line: Do I think there's a God? I have several thoughts: Maybe we (just like atoms and molecules) make up a part of something even bigger, maybe even a supreme being. Or maybe one of a zillion beings.

Or maybe we were genetically engineered and created by ET - but then who made ET?

Or maybe there is a creator that created earth, the stars, and the universe, but then who created God? (that one hurts my head a little bit).

Or maybe everything we think is real to us, is really just a simulation that was put in place by a creator (or a programmer if you will) - but that leaves the question what is the other reality? Where is it? And who created it? Could we be a simulation, within a simulation, within a simulation?

I would like to say yes, that there is only one God that created everything - but I truly think that there's more to it than just that.

Ancient Aliens? REALLY?

Why not? Sure, I've seen the show. And I will be the first to admit they are really grasping at straws for each of the show's transcripts. But if you caught any of the first shows before it became a series, there is contact that really wmakes you scratch your head and say, "Woah! that totally makes sense!!". If you haven't seen the original mini-series when it first aired on the history channel, do yourself a favor and rent it, borrow it, or check for it on YouTube. And again - I'm not saying I believe this stuff, I just have an open mind to it.

Reincarnation

Growing up, I wasn't really sure how I felt about this idea. I always had a problem with thinking I could have been someone else at one point. I also struggled with the idea I could be someone else in the future. But after hearing about people accidentally describing past lives under hypnosis, that blew my mind. And this doesn't come from just one hypnotist. Many have reported this.

I also had a recurring dream that started from around age 5 that went into my teen years. The dream was always the same: I was on a plane, looking down at a briefcase. I even remember wearing an expensive looking silver watch. All of a sudden, the plane starts shaking violently and is on it's way to the ground. I would always wake up right before impact. Was this a memory of a past life? I must have had this dream a couple dozen times.

Ghosts, Demons, and the Devil

I never really knew how I felt about ghosts - that is, until I first moved to Catonsville, Md. I have MANY stories from that house. So what are ghosts? Why are they here? Again, this is the unknown. All I can tell you is I think they are most certainly real. From what I understand, there are many types of hauntings: 1) Residual - where it's the same event played over and over again in a loop 2) Intelligent - This means there is definitely an intelligent entity interacting with you, or 3) a demonic haunting which would be something of pure evil. I think I definitely had a type 2 and a possible type 1. Thankfully, I haven't had to deal with a type 3.

One might ask me, do I believe in demons and/or the devil? Well I definitely believe there is pure evil out there, and I wouldn't want to mess with it. Could there be a Devil? Sure. There absolutely could. But I don't think I've ever met him or her in person.

Religion in General

I have a problem with religion when it can be powerful enough to start wars, split friends and families - all because someone doesn't believe the same thing or things that someone else does. I have many friends from many different religions: Christian, Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, Jewish, Seventh Day Adventist, Jehovah's Witness - only name a few. And I have no problems with what any of them believe to be true. Sure, some of them have tried to push their religion on me over the years, but I smile and tell them I have my own thoughts on religion and do not wish to change, and that's the end of it! I don't challenge them and I don't let them challenge me. In other words, I don't even let there even be a possibility of a heated argument. If only the rest of the world could do that. If you don't like another person's beliefs, just let them be. It's like: if you don't like or agree with what you're listening to on radio or watching on TV, don't get outraged and start a letters war with the program director.. Simply change the damn station and forget about it.
